Back in the olden days, you know when the dinosaurs roamed the earth...

I enjoyed doodling to whittle away the time in class, but my creativity was more apparent in other ways such as: directing sleepover fashion photoshoots with disposable cameras, filming and editing homemade music videos with a 50 lb camcorder, & designing elaborate school posters in which I spent hours flipping through font books looking for the perfect font to then hand copy in my layout. My smart and savvy dad  recommended a career in advertising and graphic design, which lead to a Bachelor of Fine Arts - quite hilarious considering up til that point I'd never considered myself an"artist."

The class of 1998 was one of the first to infiltrate the advertising world possessing a college education that centered around producing digital art. It's mind-blowing that only two decades have passed and a career that once required comprehensive knowledge in complex computer software can now be achieved by almost anyone with a simple "click" of a button.

Back in the olden days, you know when the dinosaurs roamed the earth...

Digital tools are literally at ALL of our fingertips. Ideas can be presented as quickly as they are dreamed up, but the flip side of this equation is that we're now inundated with diluted visuals. Quantity and speed has become more important than the ingenuity behind communicating our vision.

Point is apps can only scratch the surface of creating with digital art. They are the tools to help realize our vision, but they can't imagine and create with the same ingenuity as the right side of the human brain. Anyone and EVERYONE can claim the title "artist" if they so choose; it’s learning how to bolster, develop and transform your idea into something that makes people stop and think, that separates the good ones from the great.

Workshop goals:

1.Promote conceptual thinking and how to communicate ideas from an innovative perspective.

2. Introduce and explore a variety of digital tools paramount to materializing an idea or vision.

3. Inspire both the naturally artistic as well as those who don't envision themselves as "creative" to the possibilities that live outside of the generic box.

I was amongst the first BFA graduates to infiltrate the advertising world with the know how of digital art creation. It's absolutely mind-blowing that 23 years later the results from that same arduous process that required comprehensive knowledge of a few programs available and took days to complete, can now be achieved with a simple "click" of a button.

Digital tools are literally at ALL of our fingertips. Ideas can be presented as quickly as they are dreamed up, but the flip side of this equation is that we're now inundated with diluted visuals. Quantity and speed has become more important than the ingenuity behind communicating our vision.

My long winded point is that apps only scratch the surface of creating with digital art. They are the tools to realize our vision, but they can't imagine and create with the same ingenuity as we can. The purpose of these workshops is to
